Frequently Asked Questions regarding the RPG

Can my character die?

Basically, try not to be stupid with your character. As long as the character shows some inkling of self-preservation or some understanding of his own mortality and tries to take actions with this in mind... then I think you'll see the GMs around showing a degree of clemency. After all, their role is to entertain you much more than give you a hard time. It's just that with the arbitrary position they are in... they must also depict credible adversity.

A character that is not cautious about his own life will likely eventually see himself penalized by the consequences of his own choices. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't take risks: there are plenty of fighters down there who go and put their lives on the line, and stick in pitched firefights with a solid morale - either thanks to their bravery or just because they've been into so many fights that they're hardened and jaded about it. As long as you don't go and voluntarily take on more than you can chew (and the GMs will usually leave plenty of cues for that). You're bound to be hurt during the game, but there's likely to be some backdoor around there even in a tight situation to insure the continuity of your character.

Character death isn't only a GM prerogative, though. The player has a measure of power on that. If you find a cause or a reason good enough to have your character go and sacrifice himself; whether entering an irradiated area to disarm a nuclear bomb from going off, making a last stand to protect the children of an orphanage, or staying behind to fight pursuers to give time for your wounded friends to flee to safety; the GMs could accommodate that. Some characters can be great in life, but even more memorable in death... and if that's what you'd like to have arranged then I am sure the GM staff would be pleased to give your character one heck of a sendoff... with likely visible consequences in the game world or anecdotes raised about the character in the future. That's up to you.

All good things come to an end. It's usually better when they do, in fact, rather than go on and on without a conclusion... not that death needs to be one, but closure for any character is very good once the time comes. I don't think any of my previous New Horizon characters ever reached that point, and I find that rather unfortunate. I'm hoping better might be done, from here on in.
