Origin:

Where was your character born? Where did he/she come from?

Age:

It is best that most characters are rather young and inexperienced. We want raw, greenhorn, unskilled characters that will grow in the game over characters who have already established themselves as heroes. Characters should find their identity in the process of their adventures.

Humans and Wafans should typically start as late teens to young adults - young adults are preferable to insuring freedom from overbearing parents/mentors (the majority of characters are not orphans).

Bear in mind that the New Horizonian calendar is mostly independent of the planetoid the Terran colonists live on. Effectively, they follow the same calendar we do, with months going from January to December without regard to the rotation around the sun or around the main planet - with floating days tossed out. The only concession is to the daylight-cycle of the moon they live on... which makes days around 116% of the length of a Terran day - incidentally, this means that New Horizon years are 116% longer than Earth years and this bears an impact on aging. A 20 years old human adult on New Horizon would be roughly 23 years old on Earth.

Installations on Vanir still take account of the real 'Earth-time' in case it should become useful.

Date of Birth:

Humans are of course born, but so are Wafans.

Wafans are not machines like you might think, they are in fact people. Wafans are not made in factories. Wafans are "born". Not like people, but they are born nonetheless. 90% of all Wafans are born in a Wafan crèche. A Wafan Crèche is formed when six or more Wafans of the same type are called up by the local community to act as mentors to a new generation of a dozen or so Wafans. They'll be close with a few crèche mates and consider them siblings, though not always.

A Wafan is born with a fairly general set of skills and vocabulary, equivalent to a fifteen year old. He/she is raised and peered with one of the six mentors. Wafans are also born with a very general configuration to their body, a prototype form, if you will, bereft of decoration and weapons, or even ornamental components.

After two years of growth, development and general studies the young Wafans typically have some idea of what they want to do with their life. They then either take out loans for schooling, or take an apprenticeship in a field they like. They then, with their profits or loans, begin to tailor their appearance to their personal whims and needs, and become more individualized.

Occasionally, two Wafans, or two humans unable to have children will be granted special dispensation to produce a Wafan "child" which will live with and learn with them for a longer period of time.

Mentor(s):

For humans, a mentor is the father/mother figure or teacher who raises them and teaches them how to become true heroes. For Wafans, a mentor is something similar. When a Wafan is born he/she is cared for by six or more mentors or the same race who are responsible for creating the Wafan Crèche where the Wafan was born.

Family:

Both humans and Wafans usually have families. Family members should be listed, including their names, their relationship to the character, their age and then if it deserves mention their health (such as deceased).
