Youzem

Youzem is the largest continent on the planet, spread out over an area that is 72 674 619 km2 in size, which equals the size of both Asia and Africa on Luna (Earth) combined. In the northern part of Youzem you will find the largest mountains on the planet and in the southern part you will see the jungles of Narehl stretching out all the way from the west to the east.

Terraefauna

Terraefauna describe animals that live above the surface, for example in open terrain. This includes amphibians, reptiles, and mammals that live on land.

Grim Stalker

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem, Neo Titania, Aquilons Reach, Verdura.

Appearance:

Grim Stalkers are large shaggy eyeless creatures that vaguely resemble bears. They are typically well over 5 meters tall (even 10 meters on some rare occasions), and just as wide. Their ursine limbs end in three massive claws. They have extremely powerful jaws and claws, easily capable of mauling a Wafan. The thick hide is more like ceramic then actual tissue. Certain body points exhibit small segments of chitinous material.

Eating habits:

Grim Stalkers are the absolute pinnacle of evolution on New Horizon. Though biological, they are nearly invulnerable to harm from even the most sophisticated weapons. As they grow in age, they become more and more durable as they devour Wafans, and incorporate the metallic compounds into their physical structure. Grim Stalkers can devour metallic compounds and plastics just as easily as human meat.

Living environment:

Grim Stalkers are found on many places around New Horizon, but mostly on Youzem and Neo Titania. They are often found roaming the open landscape, and only when they are asleep can they be found inside a cave. Grim Stalkers are extremely dangerous and should not to be taken lightly.

Ravager

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem, Neo Titania, Aquilons Reach, New Chania, Verdura (virtually all known Biomes except subterranean and oceanic).

Appearance:

Ravagers are not the largest predators, but pound for pound not a single living creature on the planet is deadlier. Resembling a blunt nosed crocodile bastard offspring with a lion, and a long salamander liked webbed tail, these pebbly skinned creatures are hairless except for their long main, which has many long hairs, which will often whip majestically in the wind, and add an air of menace to them. Their numerous teeth are just above and below their gumline, like for many earthly reptiles. They come in almost every conceivable color. They're typically the size of a large Terrestrial dog on average, but can be as small as a beagle.

Eating habits:

Ravagers are relentless predators, whether in a pack, or on their own. Their vicious jaws are capable of tearing flesh and bone, synthetic skin and servo from Human and Wafan alike. Their appetites are scarcely voracious, and often a Ravager will follow prey for days merely because they aren't yet hungry enough to eat them, only to strike when their prey has grown complacent. Smaller, juvenile Ravagers will often move from carcass to carcass likes crows, eating carrion. Because of this, a group of Ravagers is called a Murder of Ravagers.

Living environment:

Much like Terrestrial wolves and coyotes, Ravagers can learn to hunt in virtually any terrain.

concept art by Udana

Regnant Ravager

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Azuremar Mountains).

Appearance:

A separate species from their smaller kin. Regnant Ravagers can be as large as humans. They travel in large numbers, and their hides are far less reptilian, betraying their proto-mammal status, which is evidenced also in their larger brain cases, and ferocious killing claws, and a keen deadly predators mind. They are so intelligent that they are able to track down a Grim Stalker and using their entire numbers they are sometimes able to last through a whole battle with the large beast and kill it before they are all dead.

Eating habits:

Regnant Ravagers are very aggressive, especially in large numbers, and deadly to the point that ten or more of them will often be sufficient to cow even a Grim Stalker. There is evidence of Grim Stalker corpses where these deadly and cunning beasts reside.

Living environment:

Exclusive to the deep corridors of the Azuremar Mountains, where the largest land game of the planet resides, their appetites are almost beyond belief.

Cluster Crab

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem, Neo Titania, Aquilons Reach, New Chania, Verdura (any coastal regions).

Appearance:

Large land bound arthropods, quite similar to earthly Coconut Crabs. Like Coconut Crabs, they're entirely land bound creatures, with a large fat metathorax, and an immensely powerful pair of pinchers. They're almost as large as a full grown human adult. They come in an almost infinite variety of colors, and markings.

Eating habits:

Social creatures, Cluster Crab females lay eggs, and drive away all their female offspring, keeping their male for an entourage to hunt for them, and drag prey to their underground lairs in cliff sides and caves. Cluster Crab males only leave their nest to find a mate after their mother has died. Cluster Crabs can eat vegetables, animal or mineral with equal facility, but prefer red meat, and find humans to be quite tasty, and are capable of ripping a Wafan apart to get at the more appealing bits with their immensely powerful claws.

Living environment:

Found throughout the coastal regions of the world.

concept art by Udana

Crypto Scarab

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem, Neo Titania, New Chania, Verdura (any warm coastal regions).

Appearance:

Crypto Scarabs are large creatures, reminiscent of Earthly Scarabs, with immensely powerful beaks, and massively powerful skewering forelegs which can puncture even a Wafan's thickest armor plating with some repetition. Slightly smaller than an adult human in mass, these creatures' primary colors are dark metallic, typically red, blue or purple, but green and orange aren't unheard of. Their carapaces are rimmed with a golden metallic chitin. Their round heads, non-compound eyes and flush jaws give them a disturbingly human like face when their mouths are closed, and can look truly gruesome when open. They can fly for short distances, and their wings tend to be iridescent metallic shades which contrast their shell coat, and are primarily used for mating purposes.

Eating habits:

Crypto Scarabs eat any prey they can bring down, but prefer native life or Humans when they can get them. They will only mate during dry seasons, killing their prey, and laying their eggs in the carcass after soiling them, even going so far as creating funeral mounds of stones to protect the eggs of their young when they awaken in the wet season, and burrow their way free by feeding. Their eggs have been observed to be viable for as long as a decade until moisture brings them to life, much like terrestrial brine shrimp.

Living environment:

Found throughout the dry arid regions of the world which have wet springs.

concept art by Udana

Scorpin

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Lonely Mesa, Azuremar Plains), Neo Titania (Heshmeloch Badlands).

Appearance:

Scorpins are night living creatures. They resemble Earthly scorpions but with several differences. Scorpins have a flat, non-dangerous tail, which it uses to hit the ground in order to send out a drum-like signal to other Scorpins. This tail is also known to be its weak spot. Scorpins have a 20-40 centimeter long body. The front part has two nasty pincers. Right behind those is two pair of legs. The back part of the body has another two pair of legs. The middle part of the body has two longer tail-like tentacles, one on each side, and both of them end with a poisonous sting. Scorpins have two eyes on the top of the head, and usually two to five pairs of eyes along the front corners of the head.

Most Scorpins reproduce sexually, and most species have male and female individuals. There are many different types of Scorpins, some are as large as 0,5 meter long, but most types are much smaller. Those that are large are usually the non-poisonous types, while the smaller ones are most dangerous. Scorpins come in different colors.

Eating habits:

Scorpins eat bugs and other small creatures.

Living environment:

Scopins live on open terrains.

Devourer

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Moon Lake, Narehl Jungles).

Appearance:

The Devourer is an odd looking creature on two legs, with two strong arms, and with a big mouth and stomach. It has two pair of eyes above its mouth. Long tentacles are hanging from its lips, from which its saliva is often dropping to the ground. The saliva that the beast has in its mouth is extremely corrosive, like a powerful acid. The creature is able to spit its saliva on another animal, to burn it or even blind it if it gets into its eyes. The Devourer often tries to grab hold of its prey and eat it alive. Devourers are hunting and eating machines. When they are not hungry, they often lie low and avoid other animals. The Devourer is a small creature, not larger than 0,5 meter high.

Eating habits:

A Devourer stocks its prey slowly. When it gets close enough it runs forth and either spits acid on the prey or tries to bite it. It takes a while for it to assemble enough acid to spit, which forces it to wait for a while between each spit. Normally, if the prey is a dangerous creature, the Devourer will run away if the first spit doesn't hit its mark. The Devourer is not brave enough to stay and fight because a dangerous creature can easily kill it if it doesn't have any acid to spit for a while.

Due to its extremely corrosive acid, the Devourer is capable of eating both humans and Wafans.

Living environment:

The Devourer feels at home both between forest trees and bushes as well as in open terrain. They are often spotted south of Moon Lake and north of the Narehl Jungles.

concept art by Udana

Fueno

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem.

Appearance:

Fuenos look like the knobby kneed bastard children of a rat and a gila monster. And neither of its parents were pretty specimens. They can get up to four feet long, but only one in a thousand ever do. They also taste too good, or at least with the right herbs and seasoning.

Eating habits:

If it isn't poisonous, a Fueno will eat it.

Living environment:

If they wriggle their hideous little bodies there, a Fueno will live there.

Belianor

  • Fauna: Terraefauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Lonely Mesa, Vertigo Mountains).

Appearance:

The Belianor is a species of lizard. It is very large, between 8 and 14 meters long, and has a smoky grey color and red or orange dorsal spots, edged in a lighter shade. The dorsal pattern appears mottled or osculated. There are light crossbars on the dorsum, and light yellow or white on the venter. It has small granular scales and spikes on the back and legs. The large head is distinct from the neck, and the lining of mouth and throat are orange-black.

The Belianor is a powerful bipedal runner. The adult can inflict a painful bite that is extremely corrosive.

Eating habits:

The Belianor is truly one of a kind. It's a rust monster in every meaning of the word, and its saliva is able to make any metal rust into powder within minutes. Belianors corrode and eat metal objects.

Living environment:

Belianors live on open terrain and among hills and mountains.

Coelifauna

Coelifauna describe animals that live most of their time in the air. Not birds though, because no birds exist on New Horizon.

Dusk Hunter

  • Fauna: Coelifauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Aruzemar Plains, Nerehl), Verdura.

Appearance:

The Dusk Hunter is a combination of the most horrifying elements of a bat and an armadillo. By day Dusk Hunters wrap themselves in their pebbly skinned wings and resemble large boulders. At night they unfold themselves and reveal them to be enormous flying mammaloids who resemble grotesquely distorted bats. They're eyeless, like their nearest surviving relatives the Grim Stalkers. Unlike a bat, their face is slightly elongated, and their ears are highly mobile. Their teeth are the teeth of a predator.

Eating habits:

Dusk Hunters are vicious predators. They hunt during the night, flying, and carry off anything small enough to whatever cliff side or trail they use as a nest where they devour its prey. Those too large to eat out of hand, they lift to great height and drop as many times as necessary to make them cease struggling, and then subdue them with their powerful foot claws and teeth.

Living environment:

Temperate Forests and mountains.

concept art by Udana

Spearhawk

  • Fauna: Coelifauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Vertigo Mountains), Neo Titania (north-east mountains).

Appearance:

Spearhawks are very ugly lizard-creatures that resemble birds just slightly. They are very thin, almost as an arrow, and they have long and pointy beaks. They do not have feathers but they have black and brown scales. Most Spearhawks are very skinny with dark and grey flesh covered with scales. They have wings and they fly very well.

Eating habits:

Spearhawks attack their prey by flying right into them at high speed, piercing them in the process. Missing their target usually results in death if they aim at a target near the ground. Spearhawks often attack big animals that are herbivorous and not too dangerous to them.

Living environment:

Spearhawks can be found both in the area around Vertigo Mountains and on Neo Titania.

concept art by Udana

Nemorisfauna

Nemorisfauna describe animals that live in forests, or even jungles. This includes amphibians, reptiles, and mammals that live above the water surface, specifically in any wooden area.

Arbor Strangler

  • Fauna: Nemorisfauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Narehl), Neo Titania (Perianth Peninsula), New Chania, Verdura.

Appearance:

The Arbor Strangler is one of the few instances of land bound gastropods found on New Horizon. A writhing mass of tentacles around a sack-like core, which contains an enormous vicious beak for tearing large portions from its prey, as well as two enormous golden eyes. It resembles an octopus as viewed through a nightmare. They're capable of swinging from tree to tree with relative ease. They come in a variety of colors and markings.

Eating habits:

They dwell in trees near shallow or deep water, waiting for prey to pass, than drop and crush them to death in place, or drag them to water to drown them before consumption. Smaller prey may be grabbed with their whip like tentacles.

Living environment:

Found throughout the forests of the world located near rivers or streams.

concept art by Udana

Vegilop

  • Fauna: Nemorisfauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Narehl Jungles).

Appearance:

Vegilops are bizarre-looking creatures. Vegilops look like big vegetables with one big eye and a big mouth in the middle, and 2 or 4 long arms with long fingers growing out from its body. They have 2 fat legs with 3-7 fingers on each foot, and each finger has a broad and brown claw. They are pale white or dark grey with green moss growing on them. Vegilops can run very fast and they can climb in trees. They often sleep during the day close to bushes, since they are often mistaken for a bush and can therefore hide in plain sight. They look for food and eat during the night. Vegilops are not very big. They can grow to be up to 0,5 meters high. Their arms however are usually several meters long so that they can pick fruits from high tree branches.

Eating habits:

Vegilops are not dangerous animals. They eat fruit from trees and bushes.

Living environment:

Vegilops live in the Narehl Jungles.

concept art by Udana

Aquaefauna

Aquaefauna describe any type of animals that live below the water surface, such as the ocean, in rivers or lakes. Any type of fish, or animal that have gills, belong to this category of fauna.

River Dragon

  • Fauna: Aquaefauna.

  • Region: Youzem, Neo Titania, New Chania, Verdura (any tropical area and temperate areas with suitably large rivers).

Appearance:

River Dragons are enormous, armor plated reptiles known to wallow in the rivers of New Horizon like crocodiles. Their resemblance to earthly dragons, despite their lack of wings or breathe fires, has led River Dragons and their entire genus to be named after them. River Dragons are roughly fifteen to thirty feet in length, but exceptional forty foot specimens are not unheard of. Their bodies are long and narrow, but quite muscular. Their necks are short and stocky, with a large head housing a brain large and complex enough to rival most of the higher primates. Their skin is leather, with massive sub-dermal bone patches which act as internal armor, as well as having rows of long irregular spines on their backs. They have an organ on their head which when engorged in blood becomes erect, and acts as an open air passageway, and can be used like a snorkel so they can stay submerged indefinitely. It's normally invisible, laying flat on their heads in a deep crease at its back.

Eating habits:

River Dragons live in their rivers, often lurking underwater, and attack any large herd animals which approach its river. It takes only the weakest of the herd, leaving only the strongest to escape. It disposes of the carcasses by burying them so as not to give away its location.

Living environment:

Found throughout the river systems of New Horizon tropical and temperate regions, though less common in mountain regions where Grim Stalkers are more common.

concept art by Udana

River Pirate

  • Fauna: Aquaefauna.

  • Region: Cain Ocean, Lansdale Ocean, Youzem, Verdura (any areas with suitably large rivers).

Appearance:

River Pirates are dangerous creatures that resemble something that's part alligator and part piranha. They have an alligator's tail but a piranhas head, and they can both swim and crawl up on land using their four small legs. They can move very fast on land, when they need to, and they move even faster swimming. River Pirates cannot breathe air, but they can "hold their breath" for up to an hour or so, but sooner or later they have to return to the water in order to survive. River Pirates normally live in the ocean, but they have been seen in rivers and on the shore of rivers on Youzem and Verdura. In fact, they are first seen climbing out of rivers, attacking people, stealing food or on occasion stealing a family pet animal or a small child. These vile acts are what gave them their name.

Eating habits:

River Pirates eat fish and other creatures living in the sea, but they like to crawl up on land and steel food or attack small animals, even children.

Living environment:

River Pirates live in large groups under the water. They live in the ocean, but some have been seen around the waterbeds in Youzem and Verdura.

concept art by Udana

Craol

  • Fauna: Aquaefauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Moon Lake).

Appearance:

Craols are water living creatures that look somewhat like a cross between a crab, a crustacean and a serpent. Craols have huge pincerlike claws of a magnificent metal, capable of cutting through anything, whether it is rock, steel or diamond. Craols have six webbed legs, a thick crustacean tail and a mandible mouth surrounded by squirming tentacles. Its entire body is encased in an orange-black shell. Craols are immune to any type of gaseous poison.

Eating habits:

Craols only eat Scaroflies and other small bugs and insects.

Living environment:

Craols are not very good swimmers and prefer being on land. However, they cannot bread air so well and even though they can stay on land for hours they have to return to the water sooner or later. Craols have only been cited near the Moon Lake on Youzem.

concept art by Udana

Bestiolaefauna

Bestiolaefauna describe every insect that can be found on the planet, whether they live below or above the surface.

Peraspider

  • Fauna: Bestiolaefauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Lonely Mesa, Azuremar Plains, Narehl Jungles).

Appearance:

The Peraspider is a strange little creature that is between 10 and 30 centimeters in diameter. It very fast, has 6 legs if it's a male and 8 legs if it's a female. It also has the same amount of eyes on its head. The creature is mostly white, but has purple colored spots on its back and legs.

Eating habits:

The Peraspider eats bugs and other small creatures, such as rats or mice. However, it has a venomous bite that causes both humans and Wafans to change personality for several days if not longer. The change takes a few days to happen, but it almost always does.

Living environment:

Peraspiders are very rare, but they can be found both in jungles and on open terrain. They can only be seen during the night, because they sleep in holes during daytime.

Taralla

  • Fauna: Bestiolaefauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Narehl Jungles).

Appearance:

The Taralla is a creepy looking insect that looks like an oversized mosquito with four legs and four hands. It has a very long snout that it sticks into the ground, dirt or bushes and sucks up small bugs and insects that it loves to eat. The Taralla is larger than a dog, but it's not very dangerous to humans or Wafans. Its size is only meant to scare predators off. The Taralla is also a very fast flyer.

Eating habits:

Tarallas eat small bugs and insects.

Living environment:

Tarallas live in the jungles of Narehl. They sleep during the day, hidden, and eat during the night.

concept art by Udana

Subterraneafauna

Subterraneafauna describe every animal that live exclusively (or most often at least) in caves or underground.

Moledrill

  • Fauna: Subterraneafauna.

  • Region: Youzem (Azuremar Mountain Range).

Appearance:

Moledrills are like living diamond drills. They are large worm-like creatures, where the smallest are as high as a grownup human while the biggest are about four times that size. Moledrills are giant worms that dig deep tunnels in the grounds. Some scientists believe that the deep and complex tunnels beneath the Azuremar Mountain Range were created by these creatures many thousands of years ago, but that's probably only one of several explanations to why these tunnels exist. A Moledrill does not have any eyes. Its mouth is placed in front of its body with tentacles around it that helps guiding dirt into its mouth. Their largest set of teeth goes in a circle near the edge of the head, and several more but smaller set of teeth can be found in circles within the first one. When a Moledrill is young, it only has 3 sets of teeth going in a circle, one within the other. When the creature grows, more set of teeth are produced coming out from the middle. A grownup Moledrill can have as many as nine sets of teeth. Every second set of teeth can rotate in one direction while the other rotates in the other. The beast uses this technique to drill right through compact ground and solid rock.

Eating habits:

Moledrills generally eat rocks and stones, but their absolute favorite dish is a mouthful of rare minerals and unique metals. They can get really frenzy hunting for these little treasures, and they can dig extremely deep following the smell of a rare stone. These animals avoid other creatures most of the time. Usually they simply want to be left alone. However, although very rarely, they can attack a human or a Wafan. Usually only when they are threatened and have no other choice. It has also happened that a Moledrill attacked a Wafan because it contained a very rare metal.

Killing one of these beasts is very dangerous and very hard. However, those who succeed may find some very rare and unique metals or treasures inside its big stomach.

Living environment:

Moledrills live on Youzem, deep within the mountains and below ground. They are very seldom seen above ground. People who adventure deep into the caves of the Azuremar Mountain Range stumble upon these creatures from time to time.

concept art by Udana

Neomole

  • Fauna: Subterraneafauna.

  • Region: Youzem, Neo Titania, Verdura.

Appearance:

Neomoles, also known as "Horizon Moles", are actually crustaceans, and they resemble earthly moles only in the way that they like to dig deep tunnels in the ground. They look like a cross between a lobster and a badger. They dig with a pair of forelegs with can tear through dirt at a frenzied rate, and their eye stalks are retracted back inside their head most of the time to protect them from sharp roots and stones of the soil. They're exoskeleton is very small, and covers little of their body. The whole creature is orange and brown, covered with fine black hairs. A Neomole can be as large as a small dog, and can spit very corrosive stomach acids with helps it to dig through solid matter.

Eating habits:

Neomoles are carnivorous, mostly eating worms and bugs.

Living environment:

Neomoles live in the soil of most continental areas of New Horizon, but they were first discovered on Neo Titania.
