New Horizon News

New Horizon books in the making

For the last month or so you've probably been wondering what's going on with New Horizon. Is the project dead, or did we just take a break? The truth is far from it! The forums are being moved to a new server, and once everything is up and fully running we'll be running those forums again full on. For the last months we've also been working on 4 New Horizon RPG Campaign books. The first book, the Campaign Setting, is 95% complete. The second book, the Payer and GM Manual is complete, but it lacks a solid rule system. However, we have found such a system already which has been in development for many year and which works much better than expected. The third book, the RPG Guide is the only book that we still need to work a lot with. The fourth book, the Monster Manual has more than 50 monsters, but we still lack about 50 more before it's completed.

So in simple words, New Horizon is growing like never before!

Beeswax Tree

Another beautiful plant was created by the talented artist Udana. This time she created an image of the Beeswax Tree!

Beeswax Trees are short trees, little more than thirty feet tall. Their thick leaves produce a very heady smelling wax which covers their bark, and makes them resemble half melted candles. Their treetop has a large empty central region, over an unusual donut like orifice in the skin which is used to expel stored gases.

The Shinkicker plant

Udana has created the art of another plant for us, the Shinkicker!

The Shinkicker is similar to an earthly pineapple, in that it's a small plant which grows one single, massive juicy fruitlike body. In this case, a plant which looks like a larger green and red colored dimpled golf ball. However, until it's ripe enough to be edible, the plant protects by growing dozens of large sturdy glass like spines which are the size, strength and sharpness of 18 gauge hypodermic needles.

Kae the Jotun Wafan

Eriance has created a new picture of Kae, one of the current RPG players.

Kae is a rather peculiar looking Jotun, having originally been built as a Vanir before a tragic accident caused her to look like quite an odd Wafan. Taller than a Vanir, and with limbs seemingly incapable of supporting the massive armor chest piece, boots, and gauntlets fitting for a Jotun, her every movement seems to scream cumbersome and clumsy.

Geist the Promethean

We have new art of Geist, created by Eriance.

Geist is a character we can't talk too much about, but sufficed to say, she dwells somewhere around Trapper Town in the Walk of Man. Her posture in the picture is is cocky and arrogant which is absolutely perfect.

Another plant found on Youzem

Udana has created another plant growing on Youzem. This time it's the Sea Plum Weed.

Sea Plums are the fruit of a plant best described as seagoing ivy. Much like terrestrial Kelp Beds, Sea Plum Weeds are a large spreading forest of aquatic vegetation. Unlike Kelp, however, they actually extend up beyond the surface, forming large fern like forests several miles from shore, over a hundred feet in height. They grow with flowering branches designed to attract large pollinating arthropods, which help them reproduce. Additionally the arthropods attract Gooney Birds who help fertilize them.

Kainan from the Garden of Zen

Eriance created a new picture of a NPC character from the Garden of Zen.

Kainan is an athletic Olympian Human, skilled in the arts of the curved blade. He has long dark hair, and he wears a light armor and wields a long curved blade. Kainan is dedicating his life to eliminate all Wafans from New Horizon, and he does so for the good of the human race. Kainan sees himself as the savior of man, and believes that what he does is the right thing. He is starting to gather a large group of followers, especially from Xanadu.

Ebelan from Trapper Town

Eriance has created a wonderful image of Ebelan, one of the current RPG characters.

Ebelan is a well-built Vanir Wafan. He has medium long black hair, and he wears a solid armor with a utility belt filled with tools and other useful items. Ebelan wields a large broadsword.

Another two characters

Another two characters from the Walk of Man were created by Eriance. One of them is the mad scientist Carregado. He's not just a mad scientist but THE Mad Scientist. Alteri is a small Medean that strongly resembles Satan with a broken horn. He owns a Chinese laundry, a Chinese restaurant and an Opium den. He is a delightful little monster, especially with his 'illusory emoticon attack' technique.

The first two plants on Youzem

Udana has drawn the first two plants found on Youzem, namely the Corpsewood Tree and the Rhine Grass.

Corpsewood Trees resemble a dead and petrified terrestrial tree, gnarled and twisted and having lost all its bark. But underneath its dead exterior there's sturdy green wood which is almost as strong as an iron bar.

Rhine Grass is an all pervasive nuisance that few people even bother to try and rid themselves of. Much like a typical lawn grass, when it's short it's green and soft and pleasant to look at and walk across.

Art of the Sea Gorgon

Amazing is the new art of the Sea Gorgon, created by Udana.

The Sea Gorgon is a very aggressive, cruel and highly intelligent creature that rules entire areas under the sea. Even though these behemoths are rarely seen, it has been rumored that they can drag entire ships under the water. Sea Gorgons resemble giant squids, but with only 8 or 10 tentacles and they have a face that resembles that of a human. There is a rumor of a Sea Gorgon king that has 11 tentacles (one of which has been torn off).

New Horizon Scarlet Fall

We have new information and new art for the upcoming game New Horizon Scarlet Fall. The graphics were created by our skilled graphics artist Fabian.

Scarlet Fall will be a 1 to 6 player action-oriented Roleplaying Game for cellphones where you and your friends can pick to play any one of the six pre-determined characters, each with a unique set of skills and possible equipment, to unravel a deep mystery.

Art of the Taralla

We just got another wonderful art from Udana, this time she create the Taralla for us.

The Taralla is a creepy looking insect that looks like an oversized mosquito with four legs and four hands. It has a very long snout that it sticks into the ground, dirt or bushes and sucks up small bugs and insects that it loves to eat. The Taralla is larger than a dog, but it's not very dangerous to humans or Wafans. Its size is only meant to scare predators off. The Taralla is also a very fast flyer.

Art of the Craol

Udana has given us another wonderful piece of art, this time of the Moon Lake living Craol.

Craols are water living creatures that look somewhat like a cross between a crab, a crustacean and a serpent. Craols have huge pincerlike claws of a magnificent metal, capable of cutting through anything, whether it is rock, steel or diamond. Craols have six webbed legs, a thick crustacean tail and a mandible mouth surrounded by squirming tentacles. Its entire body is encased in an orange-black shell. Craols are immune to any type of gaseous poison.

Art of the River Pirate

Have you ever seen a pet or a child dissapear from a boat? One second they are looking at the waves and then suddenly they are gone... Pray they only jumped into the water for a swim, and not that they were taken by a River Pirate! Udana has created another beautiful picture, this time of the River Pirate.

River Pirates are dangerous creatures that resemble something that's part alligator and part piranha. They have an alligator's tail but a piranhas head, and they can both swim and crawl up on land using their four small legs. They can move very fast on land, when they need to, and they move even faster swimming. River Pirates cannot breathe air, but they can "hold their breath" for up to an hour or so, but sooner or later they have to return to the water in order to survive. River Pirates normally live in the ocean, but they have been seen in rivers and on the shore of rivers on Youzem and Verdura. In fact, they are first seen climbing out of rivers, attacking people, stealing food or on occasion stealing a family pet animal or a small child. These vile acts are what gave them their name.

Art of the Neomole

What can I say... Udana has created yet another wonderful creature for New Horizon. This time you may lay your eyes upon the Neomole.

Neomoles, also known as "Horizon Moles", are actually crustaceans, and they resemble earthly moles only in the way that they like to dig deep tunnels in the ground. They look like a cross between a lobster and a badger. They dig with a pair of forelegs with can tear through dirt at a frenzied rate, and their eye stalks are retracted back inside their head most of the time to protect them from sharp roots and stones of the soil. They're exoskeleton is very small, and covers little of their body. The whole creature is orange and brown, covered with fine black hairs. A Neomole can be as large as a small dog, and can spit very corrosive stomach acids with helps it to dig through solid matter.

Art of the Spearhawk

Udana has yet again been wonderful and created another New Horizon animal for us. This time we can take a look at the ugly Spearhawk.

Spearhawks are very ugly lizard-creatures that resemble birds just slightly. They are very thin, almost as an arrow, and they have long and pointy beaks. They do not have feathers but they have black and brown scales. Most Spearhawks are very skinny with dark and grey flesh covered with scales. They have wings and they fly very well.

Art of the Vegilop

Udana has created one more picture of a new creature for us, and this time it's of the Vegilop.

Vegilops are bizarre-looking creatures. Vegilops look like big vegetables with one big eye and a big mouth in the middle, and 2 or 4 long arms with long fingers growing out from its body. They have 2 fat legs with 3-7 fingers on each foot, and each finger has a broad and brown claw. They are pale white or dark grey with green moss growing on them. Vegilops can run very fast and they can climb in trees. They often sleep during the day close to bushes, since they are often mistaken for a bush and can therefore hide in plain sight. They look for food and eat during the night. Vegilops are not very big. They can grow to be up to 0,5 meters high. Their arms however are usually several meters long so that they can pick fruits from high tree branches.

Art of the Moledrill

Udana has created a new picture of another New Horizon creature. This time I was the Moledrill.

Moledrills are like living diamond drills. They are large worm-like creatures, where the smallest are as high as a grownup human while the biggest are about four times that size. Moledrills are giant worms that dig deep tunnels in the grounds. Some scientists believe that the deep and complex tunnels beneath the Azuremar Mountain Range were created by these creatures many thousands of years ago, but that's probably only one of several explanations to why these tunnels exist. A Moledrill does not have any eyes. Its mouth is placed in front of its body with tentacles around it that helps guiding dirt into its mouth. A grownup Moledrill can have as many as nine sets of teeth, while a young Moledrill only has three sets of teeth. Every second set of teeth can rotate in one direction while the other rotates in the other. The beast uses this technique to drill right through compact ground and solid rock.

Buildings in Walk of Man

This time, instead of creating or of new characters we asked Eriance to create art of building found in different cities around Walk of Man. He created some building from Trapper Town, some from Warhead, and one picture showing the Garden of Zen. With these pictures and the additional information we hope to give a clearer image of how the people of Walk of Man live.
